The Biorefining Research Initiative (BRI) at Lakehead University is pleased to announce the Biofor Conference, a new international forum for those working or interested in the emerging bio-industry and bio-economy. The primary focus is to share new and existing knowledge and technology for this quickly expanding field of research and economy.

The 2-day Biofor Conference will include oral and poster presentations as well as an opportunity for a field tour of biomass operations and the Biorefining Research Initiative and other Lakehead University research facilities.

The three themes being investigated are:

BIOENERGY - The use of biological sources for energy, specifically forest biomass

BIOREFINING - The process of "refining" multiple products from biomass to createvarious bioproducts such as fuels, power, materials and chemicals.

BIOECONOMY - Understanding the mechanisms and processes of the "greeneconomy" as they relate to the social and economic fabric of ourcommunities, regions, and nations.
